Used to be when you had a role playing community that the theme was the theme, period. If you were RPing Gor, then it was Gor. If you were RPing Firefly then that's exactly what it was. Today or maybe I should say in SL today the RP is not pure. I bet if I went to the RP worlds where they allow for deviations like StarTrek or one of those where the universe is the limit I'd be hard pressed to find the garbage that lives in the other RPs.

People get mad at the Gor community for banning furries. Yet there were none in that world. Period. If you're going to RP Gor then no furries. It's simple. Now you might ask why I am on this soap box now. Well it's this. I went through the Firefly worlds last night. I was very disappointed. There were so many who either had the names of the original characters (I have always thought that was the tackiest thing you could possibly do when RPing a world, not to mention completely unoriginal) and/or they were NOT human. I reviewed the entire series again and reread all the comments by Joss himself about how they have no aliens in his world. This includes mutant fairies and nekos.

WHY do you have to accomodate those people in RP worlds where they do not exist? WHY do they INSIST on exisiting in the first place? I mean when I go into an RP world to RP in it, I do the research. I learn about that world and what it has and doesn't have and it would never occur to me to try to introduce something in it that simply did not exist within that world's context unless I could come up with a believable reason for that type of character. A plethora of nekos does not the Blue Hand make.

I have to learn to speak Spanish in my own country.
I have to accomodate blind people on the web.
I have to allow furries and idiots into my RP world where none are supposed to exist.
I WANT SOMEONE TO ACCEPT ME in their world,
learn my language,
make pages I would like,
and worlds that I can RP in where the world is like it is written,
NOT how idiots want to write themselves into it.

I know we could learn Chinese but OH LOOK! They've learned English!

It's the nature of open public RPs is all. In the olden days just after dinosaurs walked the earth, we played in small closed worlds with acutal rules based on the theme it was adapted from, with a game master to rule over oddities and the occassional lapse into being politically correct.

You almost feel bad for the creators of these worlds when people insist on bastardising them in the name of equality or whatever.

The world is NOT politically correct, especially when it's one made up for a movie or a book series - get over it.

The Hottest Male Avatar of 2008

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 133px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AV0ohyuxcIg/SZ2EOuKDsiI/AAAAAAAAAPE/fKP0zRnSDjc/s320/bone.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5304541324555563554" />
I should note that my friend Bone won The Hottest Male Avatar of 2008: Bone Mosten and as a result was featured in the New World Notes Blog. He's been building some incredibly awesome stuff and I'll probably have to transfer stuff to Talion or Tia to add all the groups I'll need to set up in new locations. For one thing he specializes in Medieval/Gorean style homes and furnishings and I'll need to get some shops back in that area. Since I left it I haven't had any shops there so I left all the groups.

I'll get going on Wicked, Inc. soon. I've been having trouble with the CSS I picked for the site, it keeps writing over the header graphic. grrrrrr

This picture reminds me of web design. I don't do anything except try to make others happy most of the time. Well enough. Sooooo...

The gang and I have become addicted to Greedy Greedy! It is so fun, especially when we turn voice on and sit around laughing through the hours of it. Feels good to hang out with friends again and laugh.

I've spent the last couple days making something for The Diamond Mine and found an awesome program for making tileable textures which will help a lot for the Transfer Station I have to build. Actually should have already built it.

I've redone my living area although Baron's Ruin's are giving me fits at the moment. They aren't lining up and I've gone all around them and lined them up like 80 times it seems like. Took a break to play Greedy Greedy. LOL I need to rework some of the buildings and get them in a RezFoo so I can box them. Many of them I do have the pictures for but keep debating if I want to change the company look and rebox stuff after I rework it. I seriously need to redo all my items and up date them. The babies and the kid stuff I made over 4 years ago and I could do so much with a lot of it now that I couldn't do then. The Avatars need some updating too heck when I made most of them there were no flexi prims and other such new (although may not seem that way to you) things. I promised someone I would rework the Leprechan and really should do it before March.

I got wind the other day that one of the kids I used to know when I ran the children's park is building stuff with my prims somehow so that the designer ends up being me. I'm getting people IM'ing me for service with these things and I've never made that type of stuff. I'll go intimadate him later and am not assuming he's being devious, just not careful. Yeah yeah too nice I know.

I've been hanging out a Lady's Night Out and Sensual Nights as usual and lately I've come across a new club called, The Diamond Mine. The guys are sweet and have a lot of potential to build up to the caliber of LNO and SN, I really want to help them achieve since I gave up my own club. I figure why not help others.

My ex's son has been a Godsend. When I am down and depressed he drags me over to his house for some Greedy Greedy or driving his motorcycles through his house. Totally rad doing that it feels sooooo bad. I can just imagine the tire marks on the parkay flooring. hehe

Well that's about what's up at the moment, Shaddow's girls are going to kill me I think for introducing him to Greedy Greedy. Ken and I are talking again and he's moved on to become a fantastic DJ. So now we get our Greedy Greedy games with a live DJ! What more could a girl ask for... oh heh... ummm maybe some thing but I won't tell. LOL

Some days you feel like a wave

You know how a wave rises, building power and momentum and looking beautiful and awe inspiring and then it crashes down on the beach with a huge force before sliding back out to where it belongs only to rise and build it's power again.

Well SL is kind of like that. I've been in SL since about 2003, Torment's birthday is in 2004. I started out as a child because I had a boyfriend and didn't want anyone to hit on me. I had a lot of fun as a kid back then and my first items I made were kid things that still sell today and actually make me most of my money in SL. Then I got tired of being a kid and grew up. I found Gor and played for a few years in it before moving on to other RP worlds. I did the drow thing for a bit and then tried again to do some Gor stuff. And now we're looking at Vampire and Dark Hunter RPs.

A lot of the problem isn't the world or the builds. It's the people. As we traveled around Gor now after being out of it for nearly a year it's depressing how it nearly has nothing to do with the culture that is outlined in the books any more. You think to yourself when you go to the cities how totally unlike Gor they really are, that is if you have any clue what the culture really is. It like I've noticed most of the RP worlds in SL are full of what we call WOW kids. They simply want to run around hacking and slashing. There's a lot more to role playing than the hack and slash. Finding it and finding those who are interested in it is the difficult part and even more difficult is how to deal with the hack-n-slashers who insist on coming to play with you even though they have no clue how to RP.

My biggest problem with Gor before was all the fighting, now it's all the fighting and the complete disregard as to what the culture actually is. The Drow and fantasy worlds I was in, same thing, who can we fight next. Sit around waiting for someone to pick a fight talking out of character and then jump into the battle screaming about valid hits or not and then stand around afterward talking about it out of character. <sarcasm> What fun! </sarcasm> Same thing I've been noticing with the vampire worlds and the other urbanish sims that I haven't played in much until recently.

I'm not sure what the answer is but some days I really miss the old text role playing where you had to actually paint the picture of what was going on and most people didn't spend all day fighting because there was so much else to do.

Well we're looking at starting an RP world with a casino and strip club to see if that will do anything since there won't be a lot of battle and hopefully more role playing. We could use some doctors and a blood bank for our night crew. heh

Updating sort of like teleporting but different

Well we gave up on the old City of Doors and went our seperate ways. Here I found some protesting snowmen. The Wastelands itself are not too bad just full of all kinds of neat junk and interesting builds that people live in there. I explored all through Midian and several of the other RP lands as well as the vampire lands too.

And one of the places I went and explored was the Dragon or Wyrm lands and that was facinating! I read the 26 books of John Norman years ago but being a rather strong woman thought they were horrid and wondered later why I even bothered to read all of them when I thought that. I ditched them at the local Goodwill back then.

I had already been into Role Playing games since the early 1970s (Yeah I'm dating myself) so it was natural for me to enjoy playing a character in diverse worlds. When I came into SL I explored a lot of the what was out there two years ago. Many were so hard to get into and so complicated to understand. I think the Gorean RPs drew me into them with the beautiful and fascinating builds of the cities. I worked in slow and built up till I was working hard with the Scribes and building up the Blue Caste. I had two Companions (husband's for those of you unfamiliar with Gorean terms) this current/last one is the most awsome man in the virtual and real worlds. But I digress...

Gor was fun. It was beautiful and frustrating and consumed a lot of my time online for a couple years. I learned a lot, mostly about myself. Now you are probably wondering why if I enjoyed it so much I am considering leaving it. Well it's because there is too much of it now. May sound weird but at this time there are well over 100 Gorean cities in SL. What this means is that there are not enough people to live and work in those many cities. So they tend to be sparsely populated. Also unlike many other RPs in SL they tend to interact a lot and there is a lot of distention about being true to the books or not and everyone, which is actually fairly true to Gorean nature is happier creating their own thing they can be the boss of rather than helping others make a world where everyone can play. True Gorean's in that aspect, you could say.

I am sure I will visit. My Companion and I have an official citizenship in an established city in case we want to come in and play at times. I thank my dear friend Dark for that ability. But it's time to move on.

Those of us who currently live in Blood Stone Isle are rather excited about the new world to come.

If you'd like to see more of Gor you can in my snapzilla pictures and some of my flickr sets.

I've Explored a lot of Worlds

I have played a lot of games online over the years. I enjoy testing new games before they become public and usually do not stay with them when they do. I still travel through Neopets, Guild Wars, PoTC, and some times There though. Here's a montage of a few of the places I've explored.

Some of these worlds never made it to the main stream having been scrapped before they ever went public, for political or economic reasons. I haven't yet played a game that I seriously did not like though. Although I do tend to stick to worlds that I like and avoid ones I don't like, like war games.

Playing in Never Never Land

NNL7, originally uploaded by Torment Tea.

The first two years I was in Second life I ran Never Never Land, a children's park based a bit on the Peter Pan theme. There was a Pirates cove, a Mermaid Lagoon, The Lost Boys woods, the Indians and a huge train station with a wonderful train that was developed there by my friend kit and is now sold all over SL. Here I am swinging in the tire swing.

Every month the park changed to the theme of the month we had Cootie Parties in Feb, St. Pattys parties in March, Rain dances in April, well you get the idea. Every month I brought out different rides and toys to play with so everyone had more fun every month. It was a great time and a wonderful way to get to know SL.

If you'd like to see more of Never Never Land you can see it in this Flickr set.

Ophelia's Gaze: Iris' Top 10 Hottest Male SL Avatars for '07

Before I get into some other things let me first highlight the picks for the top 10 Hottest Male SL Avatars.

Check them out at New World Notes. I started in Second Life in 2004 and for the first two years was about 10-12 years old. It was fun being a kid and I spent most of my time as the proprietor of Never Never Land. Eventually I sold it and grew up and went off to Gor for another couple years. Now I am getting ready to leave Gor and begin something new again. This time though I thought I'd document more.

I'm going to start the Planescape world in SL. Basically what this means is that I'm trying to recreate Sigil and will be using that to make a place where anyone in SL's many Role Playing worlds can come and interact. Think sort of Callahan's Crosstime Saloon in a somewhat steampunk genre. In the City of Doors anyone can happen by. It should be a lot of fun.

I'll post pictures of the current sim set up. It's called Blood Stone Isle at the moment, a small Gorean tropical island off the Thassa at the end of the Vosk Delta. Very beautiful.
